PARENTING SOLUTIONS
As parents, our ultimate goal is to raise happy, healthy and thriving kids and teens!
In today’s society, the demands and challenges on both children and families can be overwhelming and stressful. The result can be increased parent child conflict in the home. It is easy to get stuck in a negative parenting pattern with your child. Disrupting this pattern and strengthening the quality of the attachment relationship with your child will enhance his/her social and emotional well-being.
Specializing in attachment, developmental psychology and the family system, my treatment of children, adolescents and family members reflects over 25 years of clinical experience in mental health, child welfare and residential treatment centers. When we understand that children’s behavior is very purposeful and is meeting an underlying need – we can more easily develop effective parent strategies.
In addition, I specialize in the treatment of children and adolescents traumatized by abuse, neglect, attachment disruptions and/or grief/loss. These children/youth often exhibit disabling behavioral patterns affecting attention, socialization, self-esteem, and affect modulation. Parenting children and youth with histories of complex trauma related to grief/loss, adoption, foster care, domestic violence, neglect and abuse can make parents feel overwhelmed or ineffective.
Learning effective therapeutic parenting strategies to strengthen the primary attachment relationships within the family system is critical in order to empower parents to be the healing mechanism for their child.
